The Norwegian Committee and the Swedish Academy have always used the peace prize and the prize for literature as political weapons. This time too the intention is clearly written all over the announcement. Who they are trying to make friends with and who they are targeting.
Malala Yusufzai is just a made up celebrity, who became a campaigning tool against the West's political rival in Afghanistan. And she got lucky enough to get (almost) shot, driving the campaign into international fame. Malala is neither an activist nor does Europe care the least about Muslim girls' education in Pakistan. Their only interest in the matter is defaming their political rival, Taliban. And it is the greatest misfortune of this century that we get to bear 'great personalities' who are both made up and mediocre.
It is also quite notable that the Academy missed or rather refused to see the name of Edward Snowden. Awarding a Nobel prize would have been quite a relief to the now homeless and hunted political refugee. It would also have brought the more relevant issue of information privacy to public discussion. And it is quite clear that the Academy did not want to create any kind of discomfort to the ally United States.
