My list of the best films ever - World Cinema.

  1. 'The Bicycle Thief' (1948, Italian). The celebrated classic from the Italian neo-realistic era. This is what we call a classic. The film depicts a real life possibility, which is not even a bit cinematic.
  2. 'Cinema Paradiso' (1988, Italian). Gives a snapshot of the life of the mid 20th century eastern Europe. Something which we don't expect now when we look back at it.
  3. 'Lemon Tree' (2008, Language: Arabic & Hebrew, Dir: Eran Riklis, Script: Eran Riklis & Suha Arraf, Israeli production, Starring: Hiam Abbas). An excellent metaphor for the Palestinian crisis.
